A major fire accident occurred in a chemical factory at Kurkumbh MIDC and positively no one was injured. The incident came to light after a huge noise was heard in the area. The cops have sealed the area and have blocked certain areas to avoid crowding.
Devendra Potphode, chief fire officer of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) said, "several fire tenders were rushed to the spot at Kusum Distillation and Refining Private Limited Company to douse the flames".
Flames and smoke, which were seen billowing from the office premises, triggered a panic situation in the region for a while.
The official said that drums containing acetone and ethanol were kept at the plant. As the fire spread, those drums caught fire and then exploded. A blanket of thick black smoke covered the area after the blaze. No one was injured in the incident as the plant was closed. Due to the immediate response of the police, the area has been sealed effectively.
